Gilbert Meilaender, an ordained Lutheran, is Senior Research Professor at Valparaiso University in the US where he previously held the Duesenberg Chair in Christian Ethics from 1996 to 2014. He is also the Paul Ramsey Fellow at the Notre Dame Center for Ethics and Culture. His earlier teaching roles were at the University of Virginia (1975-78) and at Oberlin College (1978-96).
He has written particularly in the area of bioethics with his excellent, short Bioethics: A Primer for Christians now in its fourth edition. He is a Fellow of the Hastings Center, Distinguished Fellow of the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity and from 2002 to 2009 served on the President’s Council on Bioethics.
