There is an enormous amount of quality material relating to Christian theology and ethics on YouTube. This is, however, not always easy to find. In particular it is difficult to know what is already there and what is being added on a regular basis. For those with limited theological knowledge it can also be difficult to know who to look for or to identify serious, quality material, whether popular or more academic in presentation format.
This page gives access to a database of videos structured around theologians. As of September 2025 there are nearly 550 theologians with links to over 40,000 videos on YouTube related to these theologians. The data can be accessed by three different routes on three different pages:
Theologians displays all the theologians (alphabetically by default). This provides links for each theologian to all their videos (with “Details” also providing links to their videos based on their length).
Videos displays all the videos in the database with the most recently added to YouTube appearing first by default. The videos are also grouped into one of 5 categories based on their length (<5mins, 5-20, 20-45, 45-70, >70).
Channels provides links to all the YouTube channels which have contributed videos to the database beginning with those providing most videos. Many of these channels will also be rich resources for further theological material.
New videos from the list of theologians are added roughly every one to two weeks (normally 150-200 new videos each time) and new theologians and their existing videos are added when I have time.
With a small number of exceptions these are videos of the theologians themselves presenting or being interviewed or on a panel rather than others presenting or discussing their work. Most of the videos are in English (occasionally with other language translators or subtitles so non-English titles are often English-language videos) but a small number are in other languages.
The presentation format on the three pages is thanks to the excellent Shareables.
The default style of the page is Cards/Gallery with the videos page showing the video in an embedded player so you can watch it on the site (with the usual YouTube options relating to speed, full size etc all available). At the top right of each of these pages this cards/gallery layout can be altered to List or Table views (sometimes presenting slightly different data)
The size of the database means searching, sorting and especially filtering is crucial. Each of these 3 pages has a search box and a number of relevant filters. Filters can be combined with each other (eg to find “all women NT theologians with over 10 videos” or “all videos of under 5 mins by Tom Wright added to YouTube (or to the database) within a certain timeframe”) and with search. The drop-down filter boxes also show how many videos will be present if a particular filter is applied. There is also a (single field) sort option at the top right to change the order (eg theologians by Christian name, videos by number of views on YouTube). An arrow at the bottom right will take you back to the top of the page and the filters.

Suggestions are welcome on any matters but particularly other theologians to add as I update it, how to present it better, links to any videos missed or that you think should be removed (perhaps because it is a duplicate or is no longer available or because the searching and triaging of so many videos will inevitably have led to some being wrongly included as obviously not every resource has been individually viewed before inclusion).

Short History of the Project
It was during the COVID lockdown, sensing there was a large amount of excellent theological material on YouTube that I started creating a database of YouTube theology. I structured this around links to theologians whose works I enjoy and have learned from, covering a range of theological and denominational positions and areas of theological expertise. It ended up containing about 9,000 videos. In summer 2025 I was able to return to this project to work out how (with the help of AI in coding and making API calls) the base could be significantly expanded and regularly updated. Following that I created an initial page displaying the data (using interfaces in AirTable which sadly proved slow or even inaccessible for some users). That earlier page is still live and the data in it should continue to be refreshed if you prefer its presentation but this page now replaces it.
